Comment: The best crappie fishing is in upstream areas of the lake, particularly around Wind Creek State Park and in Elkahatchee Creek.Striped bass and white bass make an annual spawning migration (mid-March through April) to shoals in the upper end of the lake, on the main stem of the Tallapoosa River, and in Hillabee Creek. Large striped bass prefer cool water, so during summer these fish move down the lake (toward the dam) and can be found at depths of 50 to 80 feet.
