Solo Angling

I'm leaving for NH with my girlfriend in a couple hours but I decided to go out on the Lake Maspenock solo for about an hour and a half. I paddled out at 8:30 am and headed towards a giant rock in about 10 feet of weedy waters. The air is quite humid with a little breeze and cloud cover...pretty solid conditions for some morning fishing. About my fifth cast in I struck a monster bass on a Yamamotto, the fight was over a minute as it begins to approach the boat. I keep my pole low trying to attempt to keep the fish from jumping. My drag started to dart and then the beast showed itself in desperation as it leaped into the air and shook the hook free about 10 feet from my boat. Absolutely in shock that yet another Lawrence eluded me. I'm not saying it was a 6 pounder but fair to say a solid 4 and change. I expressed my frustration to myself with some colorful languauge that does not need to be shared!

I re-grouped and thought to myself A) at least I got to expereince the great fight and B) I just got out on the lake and most people are working. I proceeded to pepper the area with green Yamamotto worms when I landed a solid 2lb 11 oz bass. I stayed at that spot and caught 3 more large mouth bass, all around a pound. I decided to shift about 500 yards to deeper waters roughly 16 feet deep with a weedy bottom. I switched lures to a big squid lure and found great success. I caught 2 large mouth bass on back to back casts, with the biggest being 1lb 9 oz, not too shabby. I finally felt satisfied, especially after the one that got a way. On the way back a tossed a couple casts at some docks in shallower waters with a crawfish rubber, but no one came out to play. I got back on the shore around 10:00 am, and I am now packing up to head back to Lake Waukewan in NH to conclude my vacation. I'll probably fish for a couple hours one night and one morning so I'm hopeful to report back with Larry.
